Fundraisers today face growing challenges: donor fatigue, information overload, and declining engagement. Traditional storytelling is no longer enough to capture attention or sustain support. Organisations must rethink not only what they communicate, but how they communicate it.
Ukraine offers a unique and accelerated case study of how fundraising storytelling evolves under extreme conditions — while retaining its creativity and effectiveness. During the war, NGOs were forced to redesign their communication strategies rapidly, moving from predominantly emotional, trust-based appeals to more structured, audience-segmented and impact-driven narratives. They did so in highly volatile, resource-constrained environments, yet consistently produced bold and innovative campaigns.
This session explores how fundraising storytelling has evolved alongside changing donor sentiment from 2022 to 2026. Drawing on real case studies from Ukrainian NGOs, it focuses on practical, field-tested experience rather than theory. Participants will learn how to translate data, evidence and programme outcomes into clear, compelling narratives that resonate with donors, partners and supporters. The session will also examine how NGOs can collaborate effectively with communication agencies, creative professionals and fundraising specialists to create stronger campaigns and achieve greater fundraising impact.
